Eating when you are lonely, angry or stressed will not satisfy you


Eating when you are lonely, angry or stressed will not satisfy you because you are not hungry for food.


You are hungry for connection, peace and calm.


But eating may provide temporary relief.


Emotional eating is a valid and useful coping mechanism to support us to self soothe; however the goal is to make is a conscious choice rather than an automatic behaviour.


Perhaps try;


- when you are triggered take a pause


- in that pause try and tune in to how you’re feeling (feeling wheel)


- once you have identified the feeling try and identify how you can meet that need. Eg I am feeling lonely I will call a friend / read through messages


- eating won’t take away the loneliness, when we finish eating the loneliness will still be there, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad to do it. It can offer some temporary relief if the loneliness is too much.
